Fruits from citrus species have been widely used as a source of traditional medicines.  Citrus fruits contain several phytochemicals and/or nutraceticals (Limonoids, Flavonoids, Pectin, Ascorbic acid, folic acid and Coumarins etc). Phytochemicals from citrus fruits are anti-allergic agents, anti-oxidents, anti-tumor agents, and immunomodulating agents.
In 1992, the National Cancer Institute recognized citrus in the middle of the pyramid of the cancer preventive fruits and vegetables. Our laboratory, collaborating with Vegetable and Fruit Improvement Center,Institute of Bioscience and Technology, Faculty of Nutrition, and Baylor College of Dentistry, seeks to enhance citrus nutraceuticals by improved cultural practices, to lift the citrus to the top of cancer preventive fruits and vegetable pyramid. At present, lab is focusing on purification of  limonoids from citrus and study the role limonoids in cancer prevention and cholestrol reduction.

We also have projects on effect of irradiation on citrus functional contituents and fruit quality, postharvest diseases and quality, and physiological disorders like sheepnosing.
